Three kinds of starter kit
Refillable pod kits are the most popular first kit. You fill a small pod with e-liquid, and most fire when you take a draw, so there are no buttons to learn. When the flavour fades you swap in a new pod.
Pen and tank kits like the Aspire PockeX and Innokin Endura T20S use a glass tank with a replaceable coil. You change the coil rather than the whole pod, and they suit people who want a classic, cigarette-style draw.
Prefilled pod kits come with sealed pods already filled with nic salt. You charge the device and clip in a new pod when one runs out – the closest thing to a disposable, but reusable.
What liquid to use
Most refillable starter kits are made for a mouth-to-lung (MTL) draw, which suits nic salts or 50/50 e-liquid. Nic salts give a smoother hit at higher strengths, so they're the usual pick for people coming off disposables. Check each product page for the pods or coils it takes and the resistance they come in.

Questions we get asked
Which starter kit is easiest?
A draw-activated refillable pod kit, such as the Caliburn, XROS or Gotek ranges. Fill the pod, wait a few minutes for the coil to soak, and vape. A prefilled pod kit is even simpler, as there's no filling at all.
I'm coming off disposables – what should I get?
Most people switching from disposables go for a refillable pod kit with a 20mg or 10mg nic salt. A 10ml bottle is about five 2ml disposables' worth of liquid.
How often do I change the pod or coil?
It depends how much you vape and what liquid you use. When the taste goes flat or burnt, it's time for a new one.
Do I need anything else?
Just e-liquid (or prefilled pods) and a USB charger plug. A spare pack of pods or coils is handy to have.
